Sports Chiropractic
Chiropractic care, in its simplest form, is correcting the movement between joints in the body.  In all major, moving joints in the body, there are bone to bone relationships.  In each of these relationships, there is a necessary movement that must occur.  Often these joints will become stuck, or fixated.  These fixated joints can have negative effects on the muscles, nerves and overall performance of the body.

Sports chiropractic is the chiropractic principle applied to the joints and muscles used in sports-specific movements.

The trunk and core of the body--being where all movement is originated as well as its stabilization center--creates a high need for structural integrity and optimal function.  The joint focus here is the spine.  Throwing, racket or club sports have additional stresses on the shoulder, elbow and wrist.  Running or skating sports have increased stress on the lower half of the body.  Any direct-contact sport puts the athlete at risk for a great variety of injuries, as well as opportunities for the joints to become locked.

Before an athlete feels pain, there will be early symptoms of lacking normal joint movement.  The athlete will have decreased range of motion, lack of coordination, reduced joint stability, increased muscle tension and tightness, and could potentially suffer from exertion-induced asthma or headaches.

These symptoms will lead to decreased performance and increased risk of injury

At MNO Sports Chiropractic, Dr. Stoughton and Dr. Tilson restore the normal movement of the joint, and then uses physical therapy, myofascial release, acupuncture, massage and stretching to treat the muscle and associated tissues.  This way, both the cause and painful effect are treated.  Specific exercises are then taught to reduce the risk of re-injury.
